Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011

One last couple hits the road as Dancing with the Stars cuts down to its final three pairs. Who fell short of the finals? Did Hope and Maks make up their massive score deficit? Did J.R.'s injury doom him? Plus: The Muppets perform! As Tom points out, the inflatable rainbow is on the stage, which means one thing: Rob and Cheryl get the encore. But really, we all know they got the nod because Carrie Ann The Cougar wants to see Rob shake what Kris gave him. Rob is wearing his Lucky Bruce Jenner Diamond Stud Earring TM, which obviously bodes well for them as they learn their fate afterward.First safe couple:Rob and CherylI am completely indifferent to Rob, but I think it's cool that he's in the final, especially since most people had him pegged as cannon fodder and an early exit, like sister Kim turned out to be. But it's really not that hard to top Kim, no?After a performance by Cobra Starship, it's Hope and Maks' turn under the Red Light of Doom. I would normally say cut to the chase since we know they're going to be in jeopardy, but their confessional/backstage packages from performance nights are infinitely entertaining (read: cringe-worthy) and revealing. Case in point: "F--- them. I don't even want to look at them," Hope told Maks after their Argentine tango before whining about their scores. Ugh. Woman, this persecution complex is an ugly color on you. You're a great goalkeeper, but you're not a great dancer. And that's fine. You don't have to be awesome at everything. Just try your best and accept the facts. The judges have their shortcomings, but they're not completely wrong in their critiques. And no, they did not want you out in Week 1. Nearly everyone thought you were the one to beat pre-season. Notice how Maks said nary a peep this whole segment.Shocker! Hope and Maks are in jeopardy.Carson's back! He delivers a Queer Eye package about last night's wardrobe. So he's why Ricki looked like Big Bird! He suggests Rob get a "Brazilian for fun... like a deep dark tan," charges his fabric purchases to Tom and, naturally, smacks Maks' ass before he performed. Seriously, guys, just make him co-host. Not to be outdone, Anna hits the stage with Derek to perform the Design a Dance to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." And she looks as fierce as ever! I'm really gonna need Anna to win one of these days. The Spotlight Performance follows with four boys from the Gold School, who were bullied in school for being dancers. But as they note, they're the real winners here since they get all up close and personal with chicks on the floor.Muppets! They're all here, including Walter (aka Jason Segel's puppet bro in the movie) to perform "Life's a Happy Song." It's super cute and, lo and behold, Miss Piggy, doesn't, um, hog the spotlight. Statler and Waldorf - who, let's face it, are basically the Muppet versions of Len - however are less than impressed: "Get rid of the singing and dancing and [this show would] be a hit!" Can we have Muppets every week? Pretty please?Back to business! If you didn't read the script beforehand, J.R. and Karina are going to be in jeopardy... and they are!Second safe couple:Ricki and DerekHope and Maks, and J.R. and Karina are not necessarily the bottom two. And the couple leaving is... Hope and Maks. That was suspenseful. Yawn."This is one of the toughest competitions I've ever been part of," Hope says, putting on her best gracious loser face. "Instead of trying to win the Mirrorball trophy, I'm going to try and win a gold medal.""I wish I could've been better for you, but it is what it is. It's been amazing," Maks says before thanking their fans. Thanks, America! This one could have happened a few weeks back, but a final four finish is very good for Hope considering how shaky, not to mention increasingly bitter, she's been. But now you're free! Both of you! Leave and be happy (after the finale, of course). What do you think? Do you like the final three? Who were your pre-season final three picks? Did Hope deserve to go home? Will she hold a grudge against the judges for the rest of her life? Can Statler and Waldorf become permanent judges? Who do you think will win? show less

John Huston: Courage and Art: The Review

This informative article first came out inside the November. 18 problem in the Hollywood Reporter magazine.our editor recommendsTHR's 5 Books every week: Stephen King, F1, Rock History, and Umberto EcoAnjelica Huston Penning Memoir Due in 2013 Jeffrey Meyers has almost no a new comer to say from the 40 films John Huston made, but he's doing have a great boost the record in regards to the lots of women who swam using the late director's existence. Huston will be a rake from the elevated order so wide a swath did the charming, charming, difficult, passionate, intellectual and sadistic swashbuckler cut the more fitting title using this biography might have been The Sultan of St. Clerans, a reference to the the Irish manor house that was the identifying Hustonian domain. Much remains talked about him over time but, for people still intrigued about who did items to whom in Hollywood's heyday, Meyers isn't shy about doing a little of detailed record-keeping. The author of 23 previous biographies, including worth keeping about Ernest Hemingway, Meyers begins getting an in depth but excessively emphatic prologue that stresses the parallels between Hemingway and Huston. Yes, they were both macho artists getting a blood stream lust for big game and multiple partners. Furthermore they understood and, apparently, loved each another. But Hemingway produced an indelible original oeuvre while Huston made alongside only adaptations of existing literary works. And, almost paradoxically, Hemingway experienced from the types of doubts as well as other various insecurities that have been absolutely foreign to Huston, who moved so easily in a single lady and film project to a different. The most effective account of Huston's eventful existence can be found in Lawrence Grobel's 1989 volume The Hustons. Meyers basically rehashes existing particulars about John's unconventional upbringing since the boy in the mostly absent actor Walter and peripatetic journalist Rhea, additionally to his early aimlessness, personal obstreperousness and struggles just like a painter in Paris, actor and burgeoning film author. Enough books have formerly recorded Huston's important films, within the Maltese Falcon, The Treasure in the Sierra Madre as well as the African Full to Beneath the Volcano, Prizzi's Recognition as well as the Dead. Just what's new here? Lots of gossip about Huston's extensive amorous activities within the many horses' mouths. Much like many males who understood him were jealous of Huston's way with women (he and Errol Flynn once in an extended fistfight over Olivia p Havilland Huston lost), most males may wish to be appreciated by their women as positively as Huston is actually his. Candidly explaining his subject as "a compulsive satyr," Meyers reviews that lots of of Huston's paramours "gave his performance rave reviews." His fifth wife, Celeste (Cici) Shane, whom he nastily known to love a "crocodile" within the memoirs, testifies that, even though he was 66 after they married in 1972, "he was the most effective of my whole existence. Honest to God, John was an incredible lover." He clearly felt much the same way about her. You can construct several groups for your women in Huston's existence. There has been the short conquests as Celeste states, "John would screw something which wasn't nailed lower." A couple of of those were stars, including Zita Johann, Mary Astor, Ava Gardner and Eiko Ando. More youthful crowd had five partners: first sweetheart Dorothy Harvey, aristocratic Irish beauty Lesley Black, actress Evelyn Keyes and model/ballerina Ricki Soma (Anjelica's mother) so the wealthy, self-possessed Celeste. He was faithful to undertake and don't in most cases frustrated together before lengthy, which runs unlike his pattern while using women who constitute another category, the extended-standing mistresses. With p Havilland, the refined and complex Marietta FitzGerald Tree, French actress Suzanne Flon and Zoe Sallis, mother of his boy Danny, to title four of the very fundamental of his extended-term fanatics, Huston completed matters that ongoing, on / off, across a very long time and close ties. He sired three children. Lighting this formerly untouched but clearly central part of Huston's existence helps Meyers develop a bigger portrait in the guy than has formerly been offered he clearly conveys his subject's allure, cruelty, intellectual thirst, game-playing, peculiar emotional intensity and distance, callousness and egoism. Meyers does not take it up, however always loved Orson Welles' remark for the effect that uncle excelled at playing Mephistopheles to their personal Faust. He was, unquestionably, a complicated figure, and Meyers catches that although also writing with apparent haste. Related Subjects Anjelica Huston John Huston

Wreckers

An Artificial Eye presentation of a Likely Story production. (International sales: Content Film, London.) Produced by Simon Onwurah. Directed, written by D.R. Hood. With: Claire Foy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Shaun Evans, Peter McDonald, Sinead Matthews, Nicola Green, June Watson, Georgie Smith. If films have taught us anything, it's that the odds of lasting happiness are stacked against urban yuppies seeking peace in the countryside, and so it is once more in "Wreckers." Playing not unlike critics' darling "Martha Marcy May Marlene" with the genders flipped and the weather gloomier, writer-helmer D.R. Hood's intriguing, well-acted debut draws shifting lines of conflict between its clean-scrubbed central couple and the black-sheep brother who invades their bucolic bliss, before losing steam in the third act. Chilly pic reps a tricky sell even to home auds, although rising star Benedict Cumberbatch might lure some. Per press notes, Hood claims to have grown up in an English village similar to the sleepy Fens hamlet depicted here, and her film is clearly posited as a contempo take on a grand British tradition of rustic what-lies-beneath storytelling, dating back to radio soap "The Archers" and beyond. There are tonal parallels here with Ali Smith's 2005 novel "The Accidental," as the pic mistrustfully regards city-dwellers' community-minded affectations in such environments. The narrative wastes little time establishing the fragile marital setup of ostensibly still-smitten Dawn (Claire Foy) and David (Cumberbatch), who have recently moved back to David's gray childhood village to start their family -- a project that an early scene in a fertility clinic establishes has been struggling to reach fruition for some time. The move, meanwhile, appears to benefit workaholic academic David more than it does schoolteacher Dawn, who's frequently left alone to handle the challenges of renovating their crumbling country pad. When David's scruffier brother Nick (Shaun Evans), a soldier on leave from Afghanistan, turns up unannounced on their doorstep, it doesn't initially seem odd that Dawn is happier for his company than her husband is. It's not long, however, before the severely PTSD-afflicted Nick begins dredging up unwelcome family memories that suggest the David whom Nick grew up with is very different from the man Dawn married. The behavior of all three principals takes a funny turn, in ways that feel alternately unsettling and artificially script-induced. If Hood gradually runs out of ways to bend this brittle character triangle -- Nick's arc is unsatisfyingly curtailed as the script shifts focus to lesser catalysts in Dawn and David's marriage -- she deserves credit for building and maintaining the film's impressively musty mood, as well as for drawing a trio of smart, splintery performances from her bright young leads. Evans is particularly impressive in a tight, nervy turn that resists the role's potential for wild-eyed showboating. Efficiently edited production makes the most of clearly limited resources (we never see the exterior of the couple's house, for one thing). Annemarie Lean-Vercoe's intelligent lensing is seasonally evocative, which is to say mostly overcast, while Andrew Lovett's score, with its unexpected inflections of fiddle and accordion, strikes an ironically pastoral note.Camera (color, 16mm-to-35mm), Annemarie Lean-Vercoe; editor, Claire Pringle; music, Andrew Lovett; production designer, Beck Rainford; costume designer, Rebecca Gore; sound, Ben Collinson. Funny enough, Jackson starts the clip by saying "it is not very difficult to shoot in 3d,Inch then your film's crew showing how difficult it is always to shoot in 3d. Because the camera they are using, the Red-colored-colored Epic, has the ability to give them an opportunity to maneuver in tough spaces, the appearance it has been creating makes things somewhat complicated. Apparently, the digital camera includes a inclination to "eat color," meaning they've required to add a lot of it for the set also to the heavens. It shows super-saturated props along with red-colored-colored makeup being caked round the faces of cast-people (without plenty of red-colored-colored, the digital camera would finish off adding more yellow for the picture). However, it is not all not so great: as Jackson describes, the film continues to be shot at 48 fps, that's two occasions the conventional rate a movie is shot. Since the eye sees at 60 fps, the look can look much closer to the actual existence. Furthermore for the 3d mumbo jumbo, a couple of from the footage features the specific film being made. Leader Obama has nominated Democratic Senate aide Jessica Rosenworcel and Republican lawyer Ajit Pai to fill spots around the five-member Federal Communications Commission, Bloomberg reported. The FCC is operating with four after Republican Meredith Attwell Baker left to operate forComcast Corp. because it absorbed NBC Universal. Democrat Michael Copps’ term has expired but he is able to serve before the finish from the current session of Congress. Pai was formerly deputy general counsel in the FCC and chief counsel towards the Senate Judiciary Committees Subcommittee around the Metabolic rate, Civil Privileges, and Property Privileges. Rosenworcel, the senior communications counsel for that Senate Commerce Committee, labored in the FCC being an aide to Copps from 2003 to 2007, and offered earlier in FCC agencies.
